Wareham Support Network
Who we are
Our network has been founded by members of the Wareham community who felt that the current services lacked direction, understanding and the resources to make the meaningful an lasting differences in the lives of people struggling with mental health. The Wareham Support Network, is a new projected that implements a progressive tiered system that focuses on recovery, personal development and service to others. Each individual is given a bespoke focused recovery plan. The way we see it, it is YOUR recovery and we are here to support and empower you. We will teach you the skills necessary to overcome your mental health challenges, but not only do we teach them to, we create and environment where you will put these into practice. So many times in the mainstream health services you are given worksheet, after worksheet, after worksheet, exercise after exercise, with know one taking the time to develop the skills property. In the words of the incredible martial artists and philosopher Bruce Lee "I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times"
Once a student of the Wareham Support Network finishes there program and reaches a point where they are experiencing a period of stability they are more that welcome to join the paid peer support worker team, where they will be a valuable member of the team supporting the work of The Wareham Support Network. Our working environment is mental health and neurospicy friendly, nothing is every worth your peace and our supportive workspace always puts the needs of our peers support workers over everything else. Once a peer support worker feels they want to graduate onto other employment we give tailored support on CV writing, interview skills and can sign post them to external courses that give them employability skills. They have the added bonus of having a glowing reference from us.
Medication and holistic approaches need to be a part of the same plan, but many times medication is relied on too heavily with little in the way of other support often many people wait years for counselling therapy and other holistic treatments. At The Wareham Support Network we know the impo of both and will always work with the individual on the best course of treatment for them.
How we support the community
Mental health crisis services struggle support people properly and keep up with demand. For many people experiencing crisis that reach out for "help" the "help" doesn't meet our expectation and leave most of us feeling lost, alone and insignificant. Even if we ask what kind of help we would receive in a crisis, the answer is vague and is complete dependant on the staff to judge what is a crisis and what isn't.
So what is a mental health crisis? Well if the person experiencing the crisis, deems it a crisis then its a crisis. We don't know how it feels to be you and so if you think that its a crisis, then it is one. No jumping though hoops, no having to justify yourself, just care and listening ear to sit with you until the feelings are manageable. Because time is the real healer.
One of the functions of our dedicated wellness app makes reaching out for crisis support accessible and easy. Once you send the alert for crisis support you will be notified with an ETA of when your peer support worker will arrive and what support you can expect to receive.
